The Chirping Tales Cafe in Mukteshwar Hills | Travel Review |

On my recent vacation in Uttarakhand, I was invited for a food tasting at the Chirping Tales Cafe in Mukteshwar. This is my unbiased, honest and point to point review of the property in exchange for the free food.

A bright mango yellow paint on the kitchen walls exudes perfect warmth and extends the perfect welcome as one comes down the road to step down into the cheerful compound of the Chirping Tales Cafe in Mukteshwar. There is a huge signboard proclaiming its existence on one of the turns on the Mukteshwar road and one cannot miss it at all.

Situated around a bend of the road, the cafe sits pretty on a cliff base, surrounded by lush views of dense trees populated with some very soothing bird song.

The interiors of the Chirping Tales Cafe are done up in warm honey tones of natural pine with large glass windows on two sides which bring the gorgeous view inside. The blue skies compete for admiration as it peeks down from the glass skylights in the wooden ceiling.

A table laden with pretty succulents in even prettier pottery containers are for sale and the entire arrangement is festive and warm. I missed seeing a bookshelf in this cozy setting and feel it would have been just perfect here.

The cafe has outdoor seating on two sides and one can enjoy the sunshine while eating if one pleases to do so. The service is quite friendly though it takes a bit of a time for food to come on the table. That’s because most of the food is prepared fresh.

I had the good fortune to try out the local Rajma with a potato dish which is again their local recipe. Both were amazing and I couldn’t have enough of it. Best part was the piping hot food with a palate teasing aroma of taste bud sating flavors.

I have heard and read some very high praise for their carrot cake which I couldn’t savor at the time of my visit. Tempted by the  Rhododendron and Basil herb tea on the recommendation of their brew master, I ventured out to try it but to be really honest, it tasted only of hot water. I was quite piqued by the local flavor of the Buransh flower in the tea but could hardly taste it.

A tiny brew bar on one side of the premises, offers a veritable selection of herbal teas, coffees, shakes, fizz and many such innovative beverages. The shelves also display attractive jars of cafe made jams and chutneys which are for sale. The whiskey marmalade caught my eye for its innovative concoction combination.

Another interesting offering they have is dried bits of apple, which serve as an accompaniment to the humble cereal bowl. I found it a very innovative idea to commercialize the produce of this region.

What I would have really liked to see here was samples for the customers to taste and then decide on buying these offerings.

  1. When I first read the title of this post, I was confused with your other post about Chirping Orchard. Wondering if it’s the same management…
