“In order to write about life, first you must live it” -Ernest Hemingway
This lock down had virtually shut down my life, even as a mental miasma enveloped my brain. I had no motivation for writing, reading or any form of physical activity. Without even realizing it, I was craving the company of others. And here I thought I was a recluse, content in my own company.
A visit from some of my close family members in August lifted my spirits to no end, crushing the lethargy. That it was also the birthday of Big B, we celebrated it with loads of chaat, cake and conversations. And yes Archie the munchikin stayed with me for a whole day as his family stayed at a resort to celebrate the occasion.
I was buoyed to step out and began by going for a morning walk at the gorgeous Aravalli Bio-diversity park. Its one of the best things about Gurgaon and it felt invigorating to be out in fresh air amidst lush greenery. This also helped me to air out the car which had languished into a shutdown. I had to get the battery recharged and a full service done to revive it.
A wonderful thing I did for myself in August was to join a writing workshop. I cannot express in words how helpful or amazing this has been for me. I learnt everything that I was doing wrong with my writing and learnt some wonderful tricks and tips to improve. In case anyone is interested, you can look them up here
♥ Health & Fitness ♥
Morning walks at the ABDP is a bliss and I have gone from 2 kms to 4 kms this month. On days when I didn’t feel like driving out to the park ( Its about 20 Kms from my house), I walked in the colony. In fact one day I woke up to pouring rain and as expected, shut the alarm to go back to sleep. Then I decided to go for a walk in the rain with my huge unused umbrella and was I glad I did that.
Another morning I drove under a heavily overcast sky which opened up into a delicate pitter patter as I entered ABDP. Soon it started to pour strongly and though I had carried an umbrella, I decided to enjoy the rain spray on my face. It feels extremely blissful to be able to enjoy this lush greenery in a concrete city every morning. One of my favorite joys of life in Gurgaon π
My health report card has also been satisfactory and nothing major to worry over there- huge thanks for that π
♥ Books & Movies ♥
I finished reading 2 books and am almost through with the 3rd one. The best part is that all three of these books are on Audible – so happy to be finally catching up my reading π I also ended up breaking my no book buying pact this month and bought two books which have me very excited. Shall update on it soon.
Intrigued? Pin for later!
♥ Culinary escapades ♥
The ultimate rainy day stopped by on 19th August in Gurgaon and was the day I decided to make some pakoras to celebrate it. The sight of sheet of rain being swept by the wind outside my window as I dug into the crispy crunchy fritters was blissful.
I have been keeping my fridge stocked with hummus, green chutney, coconut chutney, mayonnaise, pesto, etc to just dig into quick snacks which are healthy too. Grateful for the burst of energy for this.
♥Β Blogging news ♥
I have been diligent in writing this month and was happy to see the productive effect of it on the blog. The blog stats look great and feedback from readers has been amazing too. I am part of some blogging groups and have started to make some inroads there in pulling traffic onto my blog.
I finally got around to starting my design page on Instagram and was thrilled to have friends tell me how happy they were to see it. If you love looking at pictures of Interior ideas, please do go across and give me a feedback on this account π
♥ Love & Kindness ♥
This month I had loads of love sent across to me by neighbors and friends alike. A chocolate maker in the colony sent me chocolate modaks on occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi to sample as I had never tasted one in my entire life. There was a message to pick up fresh cuttings and saplings by neighbors who were pruning their gardens. I got a moringa plant along with several other smaller shrub cuttings. Looks like I am going to be gardening again π
Well that’s a wrap up from me folks for life in August 2020; lets see what September brings forth! Ciao

Sounds like a lovely month. We’re actually eating healthier during the pandemic. But I’d be open to try those chocolate modaks!!
Oh the modaks were a mix of white and plain chocolate – nothing “modaky” about them. But yes I was very grateful for my neighbor to offer
Chaat, Cake and Conversations sounds amazing!
Thanks Damyanti π
Sounds like a lovely month, Shalini. Weβve had some crazy rains in Gurgaon – celebrating with pakoras is perhaps one of the funnest things to do!
True that on both points Shinjini π
That was a nice, balanced month for you, Shalz. Happy that it was so. Hope September is good too!
Fingers surely crossed for September Rachna π
How wonderful that you live near a biodiversity park, Shalini! You must take me there next time I visit! The pandemic has put life in perspective for most of us. Besides being unable to travel, I find myself adjusting quite well. People make all the difference, no? Glad to hear your health is in a good place. Happy that you had family visiting! Your new instagram design page looks good. I also noticed you’ve been posting quite a few lovely travel photos on your main account! Very nice! Chocolate modaks? Yum indeed! Here’s wishing you a better September <3
Yes its one of our biggest blessing and is present thanks to the effort of citizens themselves. Its actually a deserted stone mining site that was rejuvenated into a forest about 10 years ago by local effort. Loads of corporates have also pitched in and its a blissful place to be in – would love to take you here. Waiting for you to come next soonest.
Yes people do make all the difference and its been good to be back at connecting with them.
Thank you for noticing my Insta pages – that feels so good to hear!!!!!
What a title babe! Hemmingway couldn’t be more right π
I’m so glad you had that celebration and isn’t Archie such a delight to look at <3. So proud of you for persisting with Audible! It does make life easy in so many ways. My reading has increased drastically thanks to it.
Your design page on Insta is fabulous and I feel so proud of you when I see your creations! You are mighty talented, lady.
Wishing you a wonderful September!
Love!
Thanks so much Soumya -it feels good to read your positive and encouraging words. Archie is indeed a darling and its so nice to have him around. I am glad I persisted with Audible too though I am back on the physical books as of now.
The design page was long pending and am happy to get such good feedback on it π
