Title: Pride and Prejudice: a love story centuries old, but fresh forever

Introduction: When Elizabeth Bennet first meets eligible bachelor Fitzwilliam Darcy, she thinks him big-headed and proud; he is uncaring to her good looks and lively mind. When she discovers that Darcy has involved himself in the troubled relationship between his friend Bingley and her beloved sister Jane, she is determined to hate him. In the sparkling romantic comedy of manners that follows, Jane Austen shows the idiocy of judging by first parodies and fantastically evokes the friendship, gossip, romance and snobberies of middle-class life.

Review:  Jane Austen’s most famous work is universally recognized as the most perfectly pleasing novels which is today 204 years old. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice has risen from a cult favourite to a present-day universal classic literature. It remains just the thing which may be read dozens of times with increasing contentment and approbation.

Pride and Prejudice is focused on a family of women, it is not a chick lit. It is a brilliant novel, much more modern than the work of Charles Dickens, written so many years later this book. It’s a book you will enjoy reading. It is an honest inspection of people’s characters in the Regency era that we can still relate to.

Without a doubt Pride and Prejudice contains many plot themes that have entertained readers for hundreds of years such as the battle of the sexes and boy meets girl, which is why people are still interested in reading it. The language is well-expressed than books of today. The book is looked as a way to develop language and improve their writing and communication skills. It is good to have a mix of books from all different ages and societies in order to widen our historical awareness. It is a way of remembering the times when there was no method of transport except horse and cart, no electricity and a contradictory society and a way of speech that is not part of life today.

The book makes us visit the past to enjoy the society and elegant manners of speech, be annoyed at the expectations and treatment of woman and pleasure in the frequent balls and parties, but then depart into our own world of comfort and handiness. The book is cleverly written. Jane Austen is one of the many famous authors who will not be forgotten, due to her beautifully written accounts of the life and dramas of young people living in the early 1800s.

Pride and Prejudice demonstrates language of 200 years ago. “Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.” Even though it is worded formally, the meaning the quote is still relevant how pride and ignorance still is viewed nowadays. After reading the novel, it would be ignorant to say that values that perhaps described as ‘backward’ or ‘old-fashioned’ is non-existent. Pride and Prejudice uses vocabulary that is new to many, allowing development and indulgent of language.

This story about finding love in unexpected places in today’s society is wanted and this is a reason why ‘Pride and Prejudice’ is still read. Everyone loves to read a book about the relationships between people, because it feels so real. The rich lifestyle of some and different values of the time just adds the hilarity and funniness it needs thanks to Jane Austen.

  1. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite romance…I love Mr. Darcy and the crazy Mrs. Bennet…she is so silly but her frivolities add so much humor to the whole scene.

  2. Oh Mr Darcy… I read this in my school and remember being very angry with Darcy but slowly falling in love with him. I should probably read it again, to relive those moments and appreciate the language even more. Wonderful review.

  3. I feel super lucky in that not only did I love that book when I was growing up, but I still love it when I see blog posts written on the book. Jane Austen continues to remind readers how language clothes emotions in a variety of ways, her novels force us to infer the inferno of feelings that can hide behind the most restrained of statements. It is so exciting I can hardly stand it. That is why people read this book even 200 years after its initial publication.
